The Company
Established in 2009, Sanagan’s Meat Locker was born out of Peter’s Sanagan’s experience in the food industry for 25 years and passion for sourcing locally raised meat in the Ontario region. As a full service butcher shop in Toronto, the store has earned praise and a number of awards, most notably as Toronto’s top butcher shop.
The Challenge
As a butcher shop, Sanagan’s sells meat which varies in weight based on the cut and size of the animal. They needed the ability to sell items to online customers by the pound, while ensuring they did not incur a financial loss on products sold that were overweight when weighed at the scale. For example, if a customer ordered two pounds of chicken breast online and the total weight at the scale is two and a half pounds, they would lose the ability to charge the customer on the additional half pound. From an operational standpoint, the store also needed an efficient picking and packing process for online orders as well as offer delivery within a certain radius of the store, while having the ability to utilize additional delivery services to power delivery outside of its local radius.
The Solution
Grocer Box developed a solution that allowed for the store to capture a credit card hold on a customer’s credit cards upon checkout, giving them the ability to capture payment for items in a customer’s cart that are overweight when weighed at the scale. In addition to this, Grocer Box developed a proprietary picking and packing app that allows multiple store employees to pick and pack orders in parallel to each other, substitute products and fulfill orders quickly and efficiently. Finally, Grocer Box developed a tiered delivery system, allowing the store to deliver within a selected radius at its convenience, while taking advantage of the Grocer Box delivery network outside its local delivery zone.
